Memorial and Donation Policies

The Moore County Library System is pleased to accept monetary donations to purchase items in honor or in memory of loved ones.   A letter is required stating the monetary donation is to purchase items for the library.   A plate will be placed in the front cover of the item acknowledging the memorial.

The Moore County Library System also accepts gently used hardcover and paperback books, audiobooks, DVDS and BLURAYS.

Your donation may be added to the library’s collection or placed in the foyer for sale.   The proceeds from the items sold will go to the Moore County General Fund.

Donations which meet the guidelines of acceptability may be brought to any Moore County Library location.  However, due to limits in storage and disposal space, and the potential for damage to the library’s collection, the library cannot accept the items listed below. Please check to see that your donation does not include the following:

  • Items with an accumulation of dust or cobwebs.
  • Books with yellow or torn pages or water damage.
  • Books which have been highlighted with pen or pencil.
  • Musty items smelling of mildew.
  • Out-of-date textbooks, medical and computer books.
  • Encyclopedias.
  • Any computer software or software manuals.

If the items are not suitable for library use, outdated, in unsatisfactory condition, etc. they may be disposed of as designated by the Library Director.

Approved by the Moore County Library Board on 10/14/2021.
